WATERTOWN, N.Y. (Sept. 11, 2010) – The Erie Community College volleyball team went 3-1 Saturday at the Jefferson Community College Tournament. The Kats beat Broome Community College, 25-21 and 25-16; Jefferson, 25-20, 25-9; and nationally ranked Jamestown Community College, 25-13, 25-15. They dropped a 25-21, 25-22 match to Alfred State.
Against Broome, freshman Kayla DiBello (Sweet Home) led the Kats with four kills and six digs. Versus Jefferson, ECC dug itself out of an 18-12 hole in the first game when rookie Molly Gasuik (Mt. Mercy Academy) served 10 consecutive points. In the win over No. 9 Jamestown, DiBello registered eight kills, putting Erie first in it pool.
In the loss to Alfred, sophomore Alex DiGiore (Attica), DiBello and freshman Ashley Myers (Gowanda) each registered 12 digs.
For the day, DiBello had 21 kills, rookie setter Julia Gangloff (Lancaster) had 42 assists, DiGiore 29 digs and Gasuik 14 aces.
The Kats return to action Sept. 16 when they host Genesee Community College at 6 p.m. in the Flickinger Center.
