Kats Fall in 17-Inning Affair

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - April 9 - The Erie Community College baseball team scored twice in the first inning but could not plate another run, falling to Onondaga CC 3-2 Tuesday in 17 innings at the ECC north campus diamond. ECC is now 15-11 overall and 6-1 in Region III play.

Sophomore first baseman Ricky Mendiola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) drove in the Kats' two runs with a first-inning double. Mendiola finished with three hits. Freshman infielder Michael D'Eletto (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) and freshman infielder Matt Wilhelm (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) each added two hits. Wilhelm also struck out seven batters in 6.1 innings of relief work. He allowed only three hits.

Onondaga CC used a walk, a sacrifice and a single to score the winning run in the 17th.

ECC is scheduled to play Onondaga CC in Syracuse Thursday afternoon.
