TROY, N.Y. (Oct. 2, 2010) - Hudson Valley Community College's David Fox kicked a 20-yard field goal with 7:46 remaining to lift HVCC to 9-7 victory over Erie Community College Saturday in Northeast Football Conference action. Hudson Valley CC improves to 1-4 overall (1-3 NFC) while ECC is 1-4 (1-2 NFC).
Fox kicked a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter and added a 22-yarder in the third quarter to account for the Vikings' points.
Nate Goldsmith had a 23-yard run to account for ECC's touchdown. Goldsmith led the Kats with 39 yards rushing on seven carries. Taylor Henry threw for 131 yards but was intercepted twice. Ben Pinkard was the Kats' top receiver with eight catches for 65 yards.
Linebacker Thomas Ross intercepted a pass on HVCC's second possession of the second half and returned it 21 yards to the HVCC 23. On the next play, Goldsmith scored.
Fox's second field goal came after an ECC fumble. Hudson Valley CC recovered a fumble on the ECC 33 before Youngs ran for 15 yards and an ECC personal foul penalty put the ball on the nine. The drive stalled three plays later and Fox made the 22-yard kick.
HVCC's winning drive came after ECC's opening possession of the fourth quarter stalled on downs at the HVCC 32. A 63-yard pass from Benjamin Tucker to Jhmad Thomas put the ball on the Kats’ 4-yardline. The ECC defense stiffened, holding HVCC to the 20-yard field goal.
ECC drove to the HVCC 25 on the ensuing possession but lost a fumble to stop the drive. After a HVCC punt, ECC drove to the Vikings' 34 but was stopped one yard short of converting on 4th-and-2.
ECC plays 12th-ranked Lackawanna Oct. 9 at noon at Jim Ball Stadium on Kids' Day.
