BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (Sept. 18, 2010) - The Erie Community College volleyball team recorded one victory Saturday but lost in three sets in their two other matches at the Broome Community College Tournament.
The Kats, now 4-7 on the season, recorded a 25-20 and 25-18 win over Jamestown Community College. Christina Boxler (Attica/Attica) led the way with seven kills in the match. Corning downed ECC, 25-13, 19-25, 15-8 despite nine kills by Katie Boxler (Attica/Attica). Christina Boxler added 13 digs in the match.
The Kats fell 25-27, 25-13, 15-9 to SUNY Delhi. Katie Boxler led ECC with 16 digs while setter Julia Gangloff (Lancaster/Lancaster) had five kills in six attempts.
"We just made too many mistakes when it mattered. We played lights-out volleyball up until about 18 points then we'd just hit a wall where nothing went our way," ECC head coach Craig Starzynski said. "We'd play tight and way too reserved in the third set of both matches, too. Had we've been able to focus from start to finish, we could have won this thing."
Christina Boxler finished the day with 30 digs while Katie Boxler added 20 kills.
ECC will play at Monroe Community College Tuesday at 6 p.m.
