Wagner Leads Kats to Split vs. NCCC

SANBORN, N.Y. - April 29 - Sophomore infielder/pitcher Mike Wagner (Williamsville, N.Y./St. Mary's) improved to 5-0 Sunday afternoon as he struck out eight batters to lead the Erie Community College baseball team to a 5-3 win over Niagara County CC in the second game of a doubleheader. NCCC recorded a 9-5 win in the opener.

ECC used three runs in game two's third inning to record the win. After Jesse Zellner (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) singled and T. J. Singh (Toronto, Ont./Holy Trinity) doubled, Matt Creenan (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence) drove in both with a single. Steve Hobbs (Hamilton, Ont./Sir Winston Churchill) added a RBI single later in the frame.

Sophomore Joe Pantano (Fredonia, N.Y./St. Francis) led the Kats with three hits, including a double, while Hobbs had a pair of singles.

In the opener, ECC scored two runs in the first inning as Zellner had a RBI single and Adam Grace (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) drove in two runs with a single. Grace added a RBI double in the fourth inning. NCCC scored five times in the fifth inning to take the lead.

ECC, now 26-15, plays at Jamestown CC Tuesday afternoon.
