Kats Sweep Broome CC, Push Win Streak to 10

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - April 25 - Sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) tossed a three-hitter and drove in one run in the opener and then added two runs batted in in the nightcap as the Erie Community College baseball team swept Broome CC, 2-0 and 6-3, to run its win streak to 10 games. Barry now leads NJCAA Division III with 49 RBI.

Barry did not allow a hit until the fifth inning as he struck out eight. He had a two-out single in the fifth to plate one of ECC's runs. The Kats took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Nick Manoukarakis (Toronto, Ont./Birchmount Park) and Tyler Hoffhines (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster) hit back-to-back, two-out doubles.

In game two, freshman Mike Schnurr (Waterloo, Ont./St. David's) improved to 6-0. Barry, who had three hits in the contest, drove in one run with a double in the first and another run in the Kats' three-run sixth inning. Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) had a two-run single in the sixth. Sherman had three hits in the opener.

ECC, now 27-12, will play Mercyhurst North East this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader at the ECC north campus diamond Saturday and two games Sunday in North East, Pa.
