The Erie Community College (2-12) softball team swept Lakeland Community College (18-14) for its first two wins of the season Saturday afternoon in Williamsville. Erie won the opener 7-5 and the second game 9-5.
Erie scored six runs in the first two innings of the opener and then held on for the win. The Kats had six hits and took advantage of eight walks in the game. Sophomore Kristin Ball was one-for-three with an RBI and three runs scored. Freshman Courtney Bonivissuto was two-for-two with two RBI and two runs scored.
Sophomore pitcher Carolyn Sickau picked up her first win of the season. She allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits in seven innings of work. She struck out two and walked none.
The Kats pounded out 10 hits and drew five walks in the second game. Ball was three-for-four with a double and three RBI. Freshman Alyssa Taborn was two-for-four with two doubles. Bonivissuto was two-for-three.
Freshman Kara Edwards went the distance in the circle for Erie. She allowed five runs on eight hits and fanned three.
