BUFFALO, NY – The Erie Community College men’s basketball team played in the second part of a doubleheader Tuesday and lost a hard fought game to Monroe CC (84-77).
The Kats found themselves in an early hole as Monroe jumped out to a 27-12 lead early in the first half. After a quick 10-0 run, the Kats closed the game and went to halftime down only six points.
The Kats hit only 40% (14 of 35) from the field in the first half while allowing Monroe to hit on 53.4% (15 of 28) from the field.
The second half was much closer throughout as both teams would have small runs in the half. Monroe ended up winning the half 43-42 and made their free throws late to hold off the Kats push.
Overall, the Kats shot 38.2% (26 of 68) while hitting on 33% (7 of 21) from behind the three point line. On the other hand, Monroe hit 51.9% (28 of 54) from the field while hitting on 45% (9 of 20) from three point range.
Leading the Kats was Dashawn King (Bronx, NY / ASE) who finished with (18) points and (5) steals while Fabian Washington (Brooklyn, NY / Transit Tech) finished the game with (14) points and (4) rebounds.
The Kats travel to Mercyhurt NE to play a conference game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
