BATAVIA, N.Y. (Nov. 6) - The Erie Community College women's swimming team finished second with 179 points at Saturday's Genesee Community College Golden Harvest Invitational. ECC finished third on the men's side with 193 points.
Herkimer County Community College won the women's side with 252 points while Alfred State took top honors in the men's division with 263 points.
Freshman Julia Kaczmarek (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.83) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:33.07) and was part of the Kats' two winning relays. Rachelle Schmitt (Elma/Iroquois) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.5 while sophomore Caitlin Schwinge (Amherst/Sweet Home) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:56.49.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Kats' team of Kaczmarek, Schmitt, Brittany Schurnstein (Cheektowaga/John F. Kennedy) and Schwinge won with a time of 2:06.32 while the quartet combined for a time of 1:54.74 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
On the men's side, Brett Farrell (Derby/Lake Shore) won the 100-yard freestyle in 51.28 seconds.
ECC will compete in a dual against Alfred State Nov. 17 in the Orvis Activities Center.
