CORNING, N.Y. - April 22 - The Erie Community College baseball team split Friday's doubleheader against Corning Community College in Region III play. Corning won the opener 7-6 in nine innings by scoring the winning run after an ECC error. The Kats rebounded for a 10-3 win five innings in game two. ECC is now 17-13.
In game one, a two-run single by Joe Pantano (Fredonia, N.Y./St. Francis) and a RBI single by Emilio Arteta (Miami, Fla./Dr. Michael M. Krop) tied the game. ECC stranded 11 runners. Joe Christiano (Depew, N.Y./Scottsdale) and T.J. Singh (Oakville, Ont./Holy Trinity) each had two hits. Mike Ferracuti (Toronto/Michael Powers) drove in one run and had three hits.
In game two, Cody Dunn (Ottawa, Ont./Bea Trice des Loges) threw a complete game, striking out six. The Kats scored a run in every inning. Pantano led the offensive with three hits, three runs batted in, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Neal Demartin (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) added two hits while scoring three runs. Arteta had two doubles and drove in two runs. Dylan Huch (Gowanda, N.Y./Gowanda), Justin Carpenter (Ottawa, Ont./Franco-Cite) and Austin Benshadle (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville North) also had two hits.
ECC is scheduled to play Onondaga Community College Saturday at 1 p.m. at the ECC North field.
