DANVILLE, Ill. – March 20 – Baltimore City Community College closed the game with a 23-13 run to record an 89-84 win over the Erie Community College men’s basketball team Tuesday in the first round of the NJCAA Division II Tournament at Mary Miller Gymnasium on the campus of Danville Area Community College. The Kats fall to 24-5.
The Kats, the tournament’s sixth seed, were led by sophomore guard Dequan Jones
(Brooklyn, N.Y./Pacific) who recorded his seventh double-double of the season. Jones had 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Brandon Emmitt
(Akron, Ohio) recorded 18 points while sophomore forward Yandell Denis
(Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavierian) added 17 points. Sophomore forward Uche Ogbonna
(Westbury, N.Y./Hicksville) pitched in 17 points and freshman forward Eyimofee Edukugho
(Warri, Nigeria/Our Savior New American School) had 10 points.
ECC led 47-36 at half then took a 71-68 lead when Edukugho sank two foul shots. Baltimore City CC then took a 72-71 lead with 6:54 remaining and held on.
The Kats will play at 10 a.m. Thursday against Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley (Mo.) which lost 91-79 to CC of Rhode Island.
