BUFFALO, N.Y. - June 29 - Three Erie Community College athletics teams and eight student-athletes were recipients of 2010-11 NJCAA Academic Awards, announced today by the NJCAA national office.

In addition to winning the national title on the lanes, the ECC men's bowling team led its sport in the classroom on the list of 2010-11 NJCAA All-Academic Teams. The Kats combined for a 3.06 grade-point average while the ECC women's bowling team also led its division with a 3.03 GPA. ECC's women's lacrosse team recorded a GPA of 3.21. The minimum GPA requirement for consideration is a team GPA of 3.00.

All eight student-athletes were named to the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement category. To be considered, a student-athlete had to have completed at least 45 credit hours and recorded a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79.

"Today's honors continue our successful season both on the fields of play and in the classroom," said Peter Jerebko, ECC athletics director.

The 2010-11 season marks the 28th year the NJCAA has recognized the success of its student-athletes in the classroom. With minimal changes, the NJCAA academic awards program has been in place since 1983.
