WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - April 21 - The Erie Community College baseball team used a nine-run fourth inning to power itself to a 12-0 win over Corning CC Sunday afternoon in game one of a Region III doubleheader at the ECC north campus. The Kats completed the sweep with a 9-0 in the nightcap and are now 23-12.
In the opener, sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) tossed a one-hitter and struck out nine in addition to collecting two hits at the plate. Barry followed that performance with a two-run single in game two's sixth inning.
Freshman Marc Dileo (Williamsville, N.Y./Canisius) drove in three runs in two plate appearances in ECC's fourth. He drove in Austin Zakroczemski (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Francis) with a bunt single to start the scoring before recording a two-run triple for the final runs.
Barry and Dileo were two of five Kats to record two hits in the contest. Zakroczemski, Nick Caboot (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore), and Ricky Mendiola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) also had two hits.
In game two, freshman Mike Schnurr (Waterloo, Ont./St. David's) improved to 5-0. He allowed two hits and struck out three in six innings. Sophomore Nick Galenti (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's) had four hits and freshman Kyle Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) added three. Sophomore Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) and freshman Tyler Hoffhines (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster) each had two hits. Hoffhines had a pair of doubles in the contest.
ECC is scheduled to play Broome CC in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at the ECC north campus.
