LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. – May 15 – The Erie Community College baseball team recorded a 5-2 win over No. 2-ranked Niagara County Community College Sunday to win the Region III Tournament and advance to the NJCAA World Series which will be May 21-25 in Tyler, Texas. DeMartin had three hits Sunday while Tolsma threw a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out nine.
Freshman infielder Jesse Zellner (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) and sophomore infielder/designated hitter Emilio Arteta (Miami, Fla./Dr. Michael M. Krop) were also all-tournament selections.
ECC also advanced the NJCAA World Series in 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2005 under head coach Joe Bauth. ECC has won six Region III titles (1977, 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2005) in program history.
The Kats are scheduled to play the Region 13 champion at 6 p.m. Saturday in the NJCAA World Series. Riverland (Minn.) is playing Rochester (Minn.) Community and Technical College for that championship. ECC defeated Riverland and split two games with RCTC in Florida in March.
