ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Feb. 16 - Tenth-ranked Monroe CC used an 11-3 run midway in the second half to push its lead to 14 points as the Tribunes recorded an 85-70 win over the Erie Community College men's basketball team Saturday night in Western New York Athletic Conference action.
Monroe CC is now 10-1 in WNYAC play while ECC, the nation's 17th-ranked team, is 10-2 in league play and 19-5 overall.
The Kats' Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) scored a game-high 24 points while freshman guard Keron Briggs (Buffalo, N.Y./Sweet Home) added 19 points. Overall, ECC made 23 of 69 field goals and just two three-point field goals.
After Briggs sank two free throws with 8:41 remaining to bring the Kats within six at 64-58, MCC went on its 11-3 run to take a 75-61 lead just over two minutes later.
ECC will face Mercyhurst North East at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Flickinger Center. The game is part of ECC's 'Coaches vs. Cancer' event. All funds generated will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
