WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - July 9 - Canisius College has announced Erie Community College sophomore pitcher Mike Tolsma (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) will join the Golden Griffins baseball program.
The left-handed Tolsma was a 2011 All-Region III Tournament selection after throwing a complete game in the championship, defeating the nation’s second-ranked team. In the 2011 spring season, Tolsma went 3-3 with a one save. In 52 innings, he struck out 29 and posted a 4.327 earned-run average. The 2011 Kats went 30-18 and advanced to the NJCAA World Series, finishing fourth for the third time in five World Series appearances. ECC’s season ended with a loss to the eventual national champions.
Tolsma threw a compete game, striking out six while allowing six hits in 2011 WNYAC Tournament opener. He posted a 2-0 record in 2011 fall season with a 1.50 ERA and nine strikeouts in 12 innings.
A second-team 2010 All-Western New York Athletic Conference pick, Tolsma posted 0.55 ERA along with 12 strikeouts in 16.1 innings pitched.
This past season, Tolsma posted a 3-5 record with one save in 10 appearances. In 45.2 innings pitched, he recorded a 5.518 ERA to go with 29 strikeouts and only 10 walks.
Tolsma is currently 3-0 in six games pitching for Olean in the New York Collegiate Baseball League. He allowed four hits in a complete-game win over Hornell July 1.
Canisius College went 33-27 in 2012 and lost in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game. The championship game berth was the Golden Griffins’ third in the past four seasons.
