WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - April 12 - Sophomore infielder Jesse Zellner (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) homered in each game as the Erie Community College baseball team recorded 14-0 and 10-0 victories over Finger Lakes Community College Thursday in Region III at the ECC North Campus. ECC improves to 17-11 with the sweep.
Zellner drove in three runs in the opener to support the pitching of sophomore Brandon Nemeti (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) who struck out four and allowed one hit in the five-inning game due to the mercy rule. Sophomore outfielder T.J. Singh (Toronto, Ont./Holy Trinity) had three doubles and drove in two runs. Sophomore catcher Adam Grace (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) drove in two runs on two hits as the Kats scored five in the first, three in the second and then plated six runs in the fourth.
In game two, Zellner hit a two-run homer to back sophomore Mike Wagner (Williamsville, N.Y./St. Mary's) who struck out seven while allowing three hits in five innings. Freshman Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) had three hits, including a double. After scoring one run in the first, ECC scored four times in the third inning before recording five runs in the fourth.
ECC plays Corning CC in a noon Region III doubleheader Saturday in Corning. The teams are scheduled to play a 2 p.m. doubleheader at ECC Sunday.
