Sterlace Leads Kats to Win over Mohawk Valley CC

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - April 4 - Sophomore Melanie Sterlace (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East) scored five goals to lead the Erie Community College lacrosse team to a 16-9 win Wednesday afternoon over Mohawk Valley CC at the ECC South Campus. Sterlace has now scored a team-high 19 goals this season.

The Kats have won their past three games to even their record at 3-3. Mohawk Valley CC, which was ranked in the first three NJCAA polls this season, is now 0-3.

Freshmen Destiny Sampson (Irving, N.Y./Gowanda) and Carlye Burke (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) each added four goals for the Kats.

"We had a great effort," ECC head coach Jim Battin said. "Melanie and Carlye did a great job on offense and Jess Tunis (Buffalo, N.Y./Lake Shore) keyed our defensive effort."

ECC will play fourth-ranked Onondaga CC Saturday afternoon in Syracuse.
