The Erie Community College men’s golf team qualified for the NJCAA Division III championships for the first time since 2004 with a second place finish at the two-day NJCAA Region III championships held at Cornell University. Erie shot a 317 on the first day and a 342 in rainy conditions on the second day for a two-day total of 659. Monroe community college won the event with a 642.
Freshman Kyle Harman (Orchard Park/Orchard Park High School) became the first golfer in Erie history to win an individual regional title. He shot a tournament best 74 on Monday and followed it up with an 83 Tuesday to finish with a 157, which was good enough for a two-stroke victory.
Sophomore Ryan Winkowski (Lancaster/Lancaster High School) also was named to the All-Region team after he carded a 163 that was good enough for a ninth place finish.
The NJCAA Division III Tournament will be held June 7-11 at the Chautauqua Golf Course in Chautauqua.
