BUFFALO, N.Y. (Aug. 21, 2011) – Erie Community College men’s basketball player Tyshawn Edwards (Buffalo/Grover Cleveland) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend West Texas A&M and play basketball for the Buff this coming season. West Texas A&M is a NCAA Division II school in Canyon, Texas, and competes in the Lone Star Conference.
“We are very excited to add Tyshawn to our recruiting class,” West Texas A&M head basketball coach Rick Cooper said. “He had an extremely successful career at Erie CC, and won a lot of games over the past two years. He is an explosive guard and should fit in very well in our offensive and defensive schemes.”
Edwards was named a third-team NJCAA All-America after finishing 22nd in the nation in scoring at 20.9 points per game. He also was a first-team All-Region III selection as the Kats went 28-4 and finished fourth at the NJCAA Division II Tournament.
He was named the most valuable player of Cole’s/Brennan’s Tournament after making the game-winning free throws and scoring 13 of game-high 21 points in second half in Cole’s/Brennan’s championship game. Edwards scored 63 points (31 vs. Lakeland CC, 11/19/10, and 32 vs. Community College of Beaver County, 11/20/10) in TJ Memorial Classic to earn MVP honors. He recorded seven double-doubles, including 29 points and career-high 14 rebounds against No. 2. Louisburg (N.C.) College in NJCAA Tournament quarterfinal (3/16/11) and scored 30-or-more points five times.
