Five Erie baseball players recognized by Region III

Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Shane Latshaw (Cheektowaga/Maryvale High School) hit a school-record 18 home runs in his two-year career at Erie Community College and is one of five Kats to be recognized by Region III for their performances on the baseball diamond in 2010. 

Latshaw earned First Team All-Region III recognition after hitting .401 (63-for-157) with a region-leading 11 home runs and 58 RBI in 2010. As a pitcher, he was 3-1 with a 4.22 earned run average.

 Freshman third baseman Emilio Arteta (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop High School) also was named to the region’s first team. He hit .366 (48-for-131) with 10 home runs and 54 RBI.

 Earning Second Team All-Region recognition were sophomore second baseman Alex Dusenberry (Buffalo/Amherst High School), freshman centerfielder Austin Benshadle (Amherst/Williamsville North High School) and freshman Kyle O’Brien (Kanata, ONT/All Saints Catholic School). Dusenberry hit .411 (58-for-141) with two home runs and 33 RBI. Benshadle hit .437 (73-for-167) with 38 RBI and 60 runs scored and O’Brien hit .421 (56-for-133) with four home runs and 39 RBI. 

Erie finished the 2010 campaign with a 28-18 record. It was the Kats 18th straight winning season.
