BUFFALO, N.Y. - Dec. 15 - The 18th-ranked Erie Community College men's basketball team used a 10-1 run in the second overtime session to pick up a 98-93 win over Cuyahoga CC Saturday afternoon at the Flickinger Center. The Kats, who have now won seven-straight games, are 9-3.
Freshman guard Keron Briggs (Buffalo, N.Y./Sweet Home) led the Kats with 25 points, eight assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Shannon Haynes (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) added 19 points as did sophomore guard Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Laughlin). Sophomore guard Isaiah Jefferson (Buffalo, N.Y./Riverside) added 10 points.
Elliott sank two free throws with 3:08 remaining in the second extra session to give ECC a 90-89 lead. Briggs then sank two free throws and converted a steal into a layup to give ECC a 94-90 lead. Haynes then made two foul shots and Elliott dunked after a steal for a 98-90 lead with 1:23 remaining.
The Kats are off until Jan. 10 when they will play Genesee CC in Western New York Athletic Conference action at the Flickinger Center.
