BUFFALO, N.Y. - July 17 - Erie Community College men's basketball student-athlete Sam Hattin has committed to continue his college basketball career at the University of Winnipeg. Hattin, a two-year starter for the Kats, is from Hamilton, Ont./Our Saviour.
He has been a key factor in the Kats' back-to-back Region III Tournament championships and appearances in the past two NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournaments.
Hattin appeared in all 32 games in 2011-12, starting 16. A three-point field goal threat, he scored in double figures 17 times. He recorded first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in start against Alfred State (1/21/12).
He scored a career-high 22 points against Parkland (Ill.) College (3/16/11) in the Kats' 2011 NJCAA Tournament opener. Hattin scored 17 points in his ECC debut against Niagara (Ont.) College (11/6/10).
In 62 career games with ECC, Hattin sank a team-high 108 three-point field goals. Hattin is the third menber of the 2011-12 ECC team to commit to a four-year institution. Uche Ogbonna will play at Daemen College while Brandon Emmitt will play at Gannon University.
The University of Winnipeg, under head coach Mike Raimbault, went 9-23 last season. The Wesmen open the regular season Nov. 2 but their Canada West season opens in September.
