Kats Split Twin Bill vs. CCBC Essex

BALTIMORE, Md. - March 23 - The Erie Community College baseball split Saturday's doubleheader against CCBC Essex as the Kats picked up a 7-3 win in game one but suffered a 9-8 loss in eight innings in the nightcap.

Sophomore infielder Nick Galenti (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's) had a pair hits as he drove in one run in the second and two runs in the fourth to lead the ECC offense. Sophomore outfielder Nick Manoukarakis (Toronto, Ont./Birchmount Park) added two hits and two RBI. Freshman pitcher Blair Lakso (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) picked up the win, striking out nine in 4 2/3 innings.

In the nightcap, the Kats scored four runs in the fifth inning to tie the game at six. Sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) homered and sophomore Trent Unverdorben (Portville, N.Y./Portville) singled to drive in one run while the other two runs scored on an error. Freshman Tyler Hoffhines (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster) had a two-run double in the sixth inning to tie the game at eight.

CCBC Essex used a single, a sacrifice and a double to plate the winning run in the extra inning.

ECC, 7-8 overall, will play Anne Arundel CC in a noon doubleheader Sunday in Arnold, Md.
