BUFFALO, NY - The Erie Community College Kats used Brian Heckstall's (Brooklyn, NY / Erasmus) two free throws with 3.6 seconds left to beat Jamestown CC (73-72) on Saturday afternoon in the Sullivan Center.
The Kats came out of the gate strong outscoring the Jayhawks 42-35 in the first half. The second half was a different story as the Kats field goal percentage dipped while JCC pressure offensively and cut the lead down early in the second half.
In a back and forth battle, the Kats stayed strong in the end, rallying from down six points with just under five minutes to go. The Kats remained strong on defense and it showed as the Jayhawks committed (30) turnovers in the game. Those turnovers would lead to 41 points on the offensive end for that Kats.
ECC kept good control of the ball, committing only (12) turnovers in the game. The Kats were also strong underneath and on the glass as they won the points in the paint battle by a margin of 34-22.
The Kats were led by Fabian MacDonald (Brooklyn, NY / Transit Tech) who finished with (27) points, (5) steals and (4) rebounds while Dashawn King (Bronx, NY / ASE) finished with (15) points. Heckstall finished with (13) points, (5) steals and (5) assists.
The Kats (14-8) will host Genesee CC on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the ECC Flickinger Center.
