Kats Close Home Schedule against Lackawanna

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.  - (Oct. 2, 2012) – The Erie Community College football team (2-3, 1-2 NFC) plays Lackawanna College (3-2, 1-2 NFC) at noon Saturday at Jim Ball Stadium. The game is the home finale for the Kats. The game will be available online at http://www.ecc.edu/athletics/streaming.aspx
 
Last Week:  A blocked extra-kick attempt allowed the Kats to pick up their second win of the season, a 7-6 win over Hudson Valley CC in Northeast Football Conference play at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy, N.Y. ECC got on the board on its second possession when freshman quarterback Will Robinson (Weequahic, N.J./Weequahic) threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Carter (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) for a 7-0 lead. Sophomore linebacker Kyril Threats (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) set up the scoring drive with an interception.
 
The teams traded possessions until Hudson Valley CC scored on a 34-yard pass from Jalen Holmes to Dee Wilkins with 45 seconds left in the half. ECC's Jacob Kutz (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) blocked the extra-point kick attempt for the win.
 
Kutz, a defensive lineman, finished the game with 10 tackles (3 solo/7 assists), including three tackles for loss and a quarterback sack. Linebacker Devin Coney (New Orleans, La./Independence) led ECC with 13 tackles (6 solo/7 assists), the third-most tackles by a Kat in a single game.
 
Lackawanna College, which was ranked 17th two weeks ago, suffered a 31-24 loss at No. 7 Nassau CC.
 
Defense:  The Kats’ defense ranks among the NJCAA leaders in total defense, scoring defense, passing defense and rushing defense.  ECC is 14th in total defense (212 yards allowed), 14th in passing defense (115.4 yards allowed), 16th in scoring defense (17.4 points allowed) and 18th in rushing defense (96.6 yards allowed).
 
ECC vs. LC in 2011: Lackawanna College accumulated 545 total yards in beating Erie CC 49-0 in a Northeast Conference game played at John Henzes/Veterans Memorial Stadium. Antonio Brown led the Falcons with 148 rushing yards, scoring on runs of 24 and 60 yards.
 
Series: ECC has a 6-5 series record against Lackawanna. The Falcons picked up a 49-0 win in 2011. The Kats recorded a 39-32 win in 2010 in the last meeting at Jim Ball Stadium.  Lackawanna was unbeaten (4-0) and ranked 12th at the time.
 
Conference/National Player of the Week: Dorian Polk (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) was named the NJCAA's Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 19) by the national office following his honor by the Northeast Football Conference Sept. 17.
 
ECC Head Coach:
The Kats are led by 12th-year head coach Dennis Greene. Greene has compiled a 59-56 record with the Kats and has guided the program to now seven Region III titles as a result of the wins over Alfred State and Hudson Valley CC this season.
 
ECC Leaders:  Freshman running back Derick Peters (Rochester, N.Y./Rush Henrietta) has run for 347 yards while classmate Jacob Wims (Rochester, N.Y./John Marshall) has run for 236 yards. Shayon Headley (Tampa, Fla./Longwood) leads the team with 13 receptions. Following his 13-tackle performance against Hudson Valley, freshman linebacker Devin Coney leads the team with 37 tackles (12 solo/25 assists) and sophomore linebacker Kyril Threats is next with 36. Threats has a team-high 7.5 tackles for loss.
 
Scouting the Falcons: Harry Williams leads Lackawanna in rushing, averaging 75 yards per game and 7.4 yards per carry. Quarterback Davonta Farrell has thrown for nine touchdowns and ran for a team-high five. Farrell has thrown for 719 yards this season. Kevin White is the Falcons’ top receiver with 18 catches for five scores. Dayron Wilson and Garth Lakitsky have 31 and 29 tackles, respectively. Tedroy Lynch has a team-high six sacks.
 
Next Week: ECC closes the 2012 season with three road games. ECC plays at NFC leader Dean Oct. 13 in Franklin, Mass.
