Pitching Powers Kats to Sweep of Schenectady CCC

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – March 12 – The Erie Community College baseball team ran its win streak to four games with a doubleheader sweep of Schenectady County Community College Monday. The Kats, now 4-1 and ranked fifth in the preseason poll, picked up a pair of impressive pitching performances and recorded a 5-0 win in the opener and a 6-1 victory in game two.
 
Sophomore pitcher Brandon Nemeti (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) threw a complete game shutout, allowing three hits while striking out six. Freshman Steven Hubbs (Hamilton, Ont./Sir Winston Churchill) added three hits and scored a run. Sophomores Adam Grace (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) and Matt Creenan (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence) each had two hits and drove in one run.
 
Sophomore Mike Wagner (Williamsville, N.Y./St. Mary's) allowed one hit in five innings and struck out nine. Freshman Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) had three hits and a RBI. Sophomore TJ Singh (Toronto, Ont./Holy Trinity) had three hits in game two and a total of five in the two games. Creenan and Grace each added two hits.
 
The Kats return to action Wednesday with a nine-inning game against Fergus Falls (Minn.) Community College.
