Erie 2 BOCES LoGuidice Center team wins 16th Annual WNY High School Automotive Competition

Robert Himes and Jarrett Parsell from Erie 2 BOCES LoGuidice Center were awarded first place in the 16th annual Western New York High School Automotive Competition held Jan. 16, 2010 at Erie Community College’s Vehicle Technology Training Center, 5885 Big Tree Road, Orchard Park, NY. Mike Montaldi and Dam Mathes from Erie 1 BOCES Kenton Center came in second place and Justin Reinhardt and Nate Hils from Orleans-Niagara Career and Tech Center came in third place. The event was co-sponsored by Erie Community College and the Niagara Frontier Automobile Dealers’ Association. Other participating schools included: Burgard Vocational High School, Erie 1 BOCES Harkness Career Center, Erie 1 BOCES Potter Career and Tech Center, Erie 2 W. H. Carrier Center, Ellicottville BOCES Career and Tech Center, Niagara BOCES Career and Tech Center, Hewes Educational Center and Belmont Educational Center. Each school was represented by two students, who are given two hours to diagnose mechanical problems and get their assigned car running. Himes and Parsell will go on to compete in a national competition in New York City in spring 2010. All students competing also earned potential tuition scholarship money from the NFADA and ECC upon enrolling in Automotive Technology programs at ECC.
