The Erie Community College (10-4) women’s lacrosse team closed out its regular season with a 12-7 win over Herkimer County Community College (7-5) Saturday afternoon at Jim Ball Stadium in Orchard Park.
Erie struck first, scoring the first three goals and taking a 5-1 lead with eight minutes left in the first half. However, Herkimer closed the gap to 5-4 by halftime. The Kats then held Herkimer to just two second half goals.
Freshman goaltender Jessica Czamara stopped 12 of the 19 shots she faced to pick up the win for the Kats.
Offensively, freshman Sarah Kirchberger led the way with five goals and two assists. Sophomore Laura Nerber had four goals and an assists and sophomore Jessica Flowers finished with two goals.
Erie will likely receive an invitation to the four-team Region III tournament but will have to await until the seedings are announced on Wednesday, April 28.
