Genesee Community College used a 6-point run in the fourth set to pull away and defeat the Erie Community College Kats, 3-1, Thursday night in volleyball action at the Flickinger Center. Genesee recorded wins of 25-17, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-14 to improve to 11-4 on the season. ECC falls to 3-5.
"Volleyball is such a rollercoaster of emotions," ECC head coach Craig Starzynski said. "When we're up, we're way up, and when we're down, we're way down. We didn't serve as well as we've had and we had 25 hitting errors -- that's a set right there.
"We definitely looked like a different team compared to Saturday," Starzynski said, noting the Kats won three of four matches in the Sept. 11 Jamestown Community College Tournament. "We were up all day there. We came out here without a lot of fire and when you don't pass well and compound that with our hitting errors, you see what happens."
Sophomore setter Katie Boxler (Attica/Attica) recorded 13 kills while classmate Alex DiGiore (Hamburg/Frontier) had a team-high eight kills. Freshman setter Julia Gangloff (Lancaster/Lancaster) was credited with 12 assists.
The Kats will play Saturday in the Broome Community College tournament. ECC will play Corning Community College, Jamestown Community College and SUNY-Delhi.
