Erie Community College hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate a newly renovated business administration computer lab at the college’s South Campus to New York State Senator Dale M. Volker Friday, Oct. 15, 2010.
Volker had secured a $100,000 grant in 2008 for ECC to improve the South Campus Business Administration Department’s computer lab and to create a smart classroom.
The computer lab upgrade, which includes new computers, monitors and furniture, will create a modern learning environment that will better prepare students to enter the workforce or continue their education at a four-year institution.
ECC has added several smart classrooms in recent years to meet the growing technology needs of its students and faculty. A smart classroom is equipped with an instructor station, computer and audiovisual equipment, allowing the instructor to teach using a wide variety of media sources, including DVD, VHS and PowerPoint presentations.
“On behalf of the ECC Board of Trustees and the entire college community, I would like to thank Senator Dale Volker for his efforts in securing funding for this wonderful smart classroom,” ECC President Jack Quinn said. “Senator Volker, a true advocate for higher education, has been a long-standing and strong supporter of ECC. We wholeheartedly thank him for all that he has done for the college. With his help, the learning experience will be improved for countless students for years to come.”
Erie Community College meets the needs of a diverse student body and contributes to regional economic vitality by providing excellent, flexible, affordable and accessible educational programs in a multi-campus environment committed to continuous improvement.
