BUFFALO, N.Y. (Sept. 2, 2010) – The Erie Community College men’s soccer team (1-0) recorded a 2-0 shutout win over Finger Lakes Community College (0-4) Thursday afternoon at the ECC South Campus Field.
The win was the first under head coach Bernie Feldmann and the first win for the Kats since Oct. 11, 2008, when they defeated Mercyhurst North East 2-1 in overtime. The victory was also Feldmann’s first-ever collegiate coaching triumph.
ECC freshman Adan Mukumbira opened the scoring in the 55th minute when he got behind the Finger Lakes’ defense, took a pass from classmate Omar Sundi and put the ball into the corner of the net.
Sundi scored in the 81st minute. Freshman Pablo Ordonez was credited with the assist.
“After the first 10 minutes, which was what I expected, we controlled the better part of the game,” Feldmann said.
Sophomore Craig Raines made seven saves to record the team’s first shutout since a 2-0 decision over Niagara County Community College, Oct. 9, 2008.
The Kats face Corning Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday in Corning.
