HOLYOKE, Mass. - Sept. 26 - The Erie Community College volleyball team recorded two wins Sunday to finish 8-0 and win the Holyoke (Mass.) Community College Tournament. The Kats, winners of nine straight and improve to 13-8 overall, defeated Northern Essex Community College, 27-25, 25-9, and Hudson Valley Community College, 25-21, 25-20.
ECC sophomore outside hitter Alex DiGiore (Hamburg/Frontier) had 10 kills in the win over Northern Essex while Julia Gangloff (Lancaster/Lancaster) and Nikki Kreuzer (Angola/Lake Shore) each served nine-point runs.
"We started the day by sleepwalking a little," ECC head coach Craig Starzynski said. "Our serving came alive during the second set."
DiGiore was credited with 11 digs in the win over Hudson Valley while Molly Gasuik (Buffalo/Mt. Mercy Academy) added nine. Sophomore Katie Boxler (Attica/Attica) added nine kills.
"Everything was clicking and that was a really great way to finish the tournament," Starzynski said. "I'm very proud of the way we pushed through to the last point each game. Our defense really stepped up big."
ECC plays Mercyhurst North East at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Flickinger Center.
