ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Sept. 20 – The Erie Community College football team had two student-athletes honored by the Northeast Football Conference Monday.
Sophomore placekicker Michael Lawandus (Lancaster, N.Y./Sweet Home) was named the NFC’s special teams player of the week and sophomore defensive end Tyler Lopes (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East) was one of three co-players of the week for defense.
Lawandus hit the game-winning 41-yard overtime field goal to lift ECC to the 20-17 overtime victory over Alfred State. He made both of his field-goal attempts (20 and the career-long 41 yarder). He was also 2-for-2 in PAT attempts and punted seven times for 241 yards.
Lopes recorded eight tackles (4 solo) in the Kats’ win at Alfred State. He had a school-record six tackles for loss (34 yards) and four of them were credited as sacks for a loss of 30 yards.
The Kats face Nassau Community College at noon Saturday at Jim Ball Stadium.
