BUFFALO, N.Y. – Feb. 27 – The Erie Community College men’s basketball team placed two individuals on the All-Region III first team and another on the third team, the league announced today.
Freshman guards Keron Briggs (Buffalo, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) were the first-team selections while sophomore forward Rayshawn Sumlin (Cleveland, Ohio/Martin Luther King) was a third-team pick.
Briggs is the Kats’ second-leading scorer, averaging 17.1 points per game. He has recorded three double-doubles, including a quadruple double in a win at Jamestown CC-Cattaraugus County. He averages 6.0 assists and 2.5 per game.
Elliott, the Kats’ leading scorer at 20.4 points per game, also ranks second in rebounds per game (6.9). He has led ECC in scoring in 11 of his 18 games played. Elliott has three double-doubles this season.
Sumlin, who has recorded a team-high five double-doubles in 2012-13, is the Kats’ top rebounder at 8.4 rebounds per contest. He was the Jan. 21 Region III male Athlete of the Week after recorded back-to-back double-doubles.
ECC, the nation’s 14th-ranked team, will play Niagara County CC at 3 p.m. Saturday at Monroe CC in the Region III Tournament semifinals. The teams split their conference games this season.
