CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. - (Nov. 13) - The Erie Community College hockey team scored nine consecutive goals and handed Mohawk Valley Community College a 13-2 loss Saturday afternoon at the Cheektowaga Ice Rink.
The Kats, now 4-1, gave up a power-play goal before starting their goal streak. Ryan Vertino (Grand Island) tied the game 1-1 with a power-play goal with 1:59 left in the period. Nicholas Friol (Orchard Park) then gave the Kats a 2-1 lead 63 seconds into the second period and the rout was on. Todd Lyness (North Tonawanda) scored back-to-back goals to give ECC a 5-1 lead after two periods.
Lyness completed his hat trick with five minutes left.
Lyness had three goals and three assists while Friol added two goals and three assists. Kyle Chase (West Seneca) recorded two goals, including a short-handed tally, and two assists.
ECC plays at Monroe Community College at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
