BUFFALO, N.Y. - Oct. 6 - The Erie Community College volleyball team, ranked ninth in the nation, won its 12th-straight match and improved to 20-1 with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-20 victory over Jamestown Community College Thursday night at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center.
Freshman Katie Russi (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) led the Kats with 12 kills and 16 digs while Rylie Bean (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) added 14 digs. Katlyn Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y./Mt. Mercy Academy) picked up a team-high three blocks while Danielle Aurellio-Clark (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) made 24 assists.
"Our defense than we've played all season," ECC head coach Craig Starzynski said. "One of our Achilles heels this season is that we couldn't pick up tips down the middle and we were able to sniff those out tonight. Our serving was good, our hitting was good but our defense was definitely the best. We were able to get quick passes to the setter, setting up our quick offense."
ECC will play Niagara County Community College, NJCAA Division III's seventh-ranked team, Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Flickinger Center.
