Monroe CC Tops Kats in 1-2 Matchup

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. - Dec. 13 - The NJCAA's top two ranked hockey teams took to the ice Tuesday night at the Cheektowaga Rec Center. Monroe Community College, the nation's top-ranked team, took advantage of a five-minute power play to score four third-period goals and record an 8-2 win over Erie CC, which was ranked second in Tuesday's poll.

The Kats, now 11-2, got two points each from Ryan Kaufman (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Joshua Jaszcz (Cheektowaga, N.Y./West Seneca East). After Monroe CC took a 2-0 first period lead, Kaufman scored on the Kats' power play with Jaszcz and Eric Mueller (Hamburg, N.Y./Canisius) getting assists.

The Tribunes, now 15-1, answered to take a 3-1 lead before Jaszcz scored on the power play at 12:47 with assists going to Kaufman and Christopher Kendall (Cheektowaga, N.Y.). Monroe CC scored with 2:27 remaining in the second to take a 4-2 lead at intermission.

The Kats will play Medaille College (ACHA) Saturday at 3:20 p.m. at the Cheektowaga Rec Center.
