Barry's Homer Caps Kats' Rally vs. NCCC

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - April 30 - Sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) doubled and hit a three-run home run as the Erie Community College basetball team picked up an 8-5 game two win over No. 10 Niagara County CC Tuesday afternoon in Region III action at the ECC north campus diamond. NCCC won the opener 9-4.

ECC's Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins), Nick Manoukarakis (Toronto, Ont./Birchmount Park) and Tyler Hoffhines (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster) each had two hits in the opener. NCCC built a 9-0 before the Kats plated a run in the fifth on a Ricky Mendiola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville) home run.

ECC snapped NCCC's six-game win streak in the nightcap. NCCC opened a 4-0 lead before the Kats plated a run in third, two in the fourth and then three in the fifth on Barry's three-run homer. The Kats added two in the sixth. Barry, Mendiola, Nick Caboot (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore), and Brett Bauth (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's) all had two hits. Bauth also drove in three runs while Mendiola recorded two doubles. Ian Walsh (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) scattered 11 hits to pick up the win.

The Kats, now 30-15, and NCCC will play a doubleheader 2 p.m. Thursday in Sanborn, N.Y.
