Kats Split Twin Bill vs. NCCC

SANBORN, N.Y, - Sept. 19 – The Erie Community College baseball team split its Western New York Athletic Conference doubleheader against Niagara County CC Wednesday. The Kats picked up a 3-2 win in nine innings in the opener but fell 6-4 in the nightcap.

Sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) pitched seven innings, allowing only three hits and striking out seven. ECC plated a run in the fourth when Michael D’Eletto (Walworth, N.Y./Wayne Central) doubled and eventually scored on a ground out. The Kats took a 2-1 lead when Josh Vaccaro (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) scored on a wild pitch.

NCCC tied the score when the Thunderwolves stole home with two outs. ECC picked up the win on a two-out single by Tyler Hoffhines (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster).

Freshman Aaron Alessi (New Port Richey, Fla./River Ridge) pitched two scoreless innings for the relief victory.

The nightcap saw NCCC take a 6-0 lead after four innings. In the fifth, Zachary Hayes (Orchard Park, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude) had a two-out, two-run single to bring ECC within two, 6-4

Hayes and Barry each recorded two hits. Joe Dileo (Williamsville, N.Y./St. Joe’s) struck out three in two innings of a relief appearance.

ECC plays Mercyhurst North East in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday in North East, Pa.
