MacNeil Leads Kats Past Hudson Valley

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. - The Erie Community College hockey team improved to 8-0-1 with a 6-2 win over Hudson Valley Community College Sunday afternoon at the Cheektowaga Rec Center. Sophomore defenseman Derek MacNeil (Lake View, N.Y.) led the Kats with a goal and two assists.

The Kats broke a 2-2 tie when Dirk Thur (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) broke in and scored with 3:01 remaining in the second period.

With 13:16 remaining in the game, MacNeil gave ECC a 4-2 lead when picked up a loose puck near center ice and skated in, shooting a backhand past the HVCC goaltender. The Kats added goals from sophomores Michael Boice  (Kenmore, N.Y.) and Christopher Kendall (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) to close the period.

ECC also got a power-play goal from sophomore Frank Briandi (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and an even-strength goal from freshman Eric Mueller (Hamburg, N.Y./Canisius). Kendall and Mueller each added an assist. Thomas Sciortino (Amherst, N.Y.) made 33 saves for the win.

ECC's next game will be against Monroe Community College in Rochester Nov. 30.
