BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Erie Community College Kats won their conference championship this past weekend after defeating Monroe CC and Niagara County CC 3-1 and 11-8 respectively.
In their first game against Monroe CC, the Kats rode the pitching of Austin Spindler who pitched seven strong innings, giving up only one run while striking out three. In addition, relief pitcher Mike Schnurr finished the final two innings without giving up a hit and striking out four batters.
Offensively, the Kats pulled away in the 8th inning with three runs to take a 3-1 lead. Mike D'Eletto started the scoring knocking in the tying run before Tyler Hoffhines and Dane Cala added hit to score the insurance runs. Marc Dileo was 2 for 4 on the day as well.
In the game against Niagara County CC, the Kats were much more potent offensively. The team total 14 hits and nearly every player had at least one hit. Leading the Kats offensively was Josh Brosius who was 2 for 4 from the plate and knocked in three rbi in the game. In addition, Hoffhines contributed again going 2 for 4 with 2 rbi along with Brett Bauth who was 2 for 4 from the plate and scored three runs.
Pitching for the Kats was Schnurr who went three innings surrendering only one hit while striking out three. Bobby Graczyk pitched 3.2 innings as well surrendered only one earned one while striking out two.
The Kats (7-6) will finish their fall season with scrimmages against Brockport and Hilbert Saturday.
