Scoring Balance Carries Kats to 104-66 Victory

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Nov. 6) - The Erie Community College men's basketball team had five players score in double figures as the Kats rolled to a 104-66 victory Saturday over Niagara (Ont.) College in the seventh annual Cole's/Brennan's Tournament. The Kats will play Lakeland (Ohio) Community College in Sunday's 2 p.m. championship.

ECC, the nation's eighth-ranked team, was led by sophomore Tyshawn Edwards (Buffalo/Grover Cleveland) as he finished with 24 points. Freshman Sam Hattin (Hamilton, Ont./Our Savior) added 17 points while sophomore God's Gift Achiuwa (Nigeria/Sure Foundation) had 16 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Yandell Denis (Brooklyn/Xavierian) had 13 points and seven rebounds while Jahmill Jenkins (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) had a game-high eight assists. Sophomore Kenyon Edwards (Buffalo/Grover Cleveland) contributed 12 points in a reserve role.

After Niagara took a 10-6 lead three minutes into the contest, ECC scored nine straight points, ending with a Kenyon Edwards layup for a 15-10 lead with 13:02 left in the first half. Another Kenyon Edwards layup gave the Kats a 26-14 lead with 10:23 to play.

Lakeland 99, Schoolcraft 70

Ray Chambers recorded 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lakeland Lakers past the Schoolcraft Ocelots 99-70 in the opening round Cole's/Brennan's Tournament. The Lakers built a 49-29 halftime lead and capitalized on 26 Ocelots turnovers.
