Kats Record 4-Set Win over Finger Lakes CC

Behind 16 kills and 10 digs from sophomore outside hitter Alex DiGiore (Hamburg/Frontier), the Erie Community College volleyball team defeated Finger Lakes Community College, 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19 Thursday night at the Flickinger Center. ECC improved to 5-8 whle Finger Lakes is now 2-10.

The teams were tied 20-20 in game one before the Kats broke away with the game's final five points.

Christina Boxler (Attica/Attica) had 14 digs and six kills while cousin Katie Boxler (Attica/Attica) had seven kills and 15 assists. Ashley Myers (Gowanda/Gowanda) had a team-high 19 digs while Julia Gangloff (Lancaster/Lancaster) contributed 18 assists, three service assists and three blocks.

"It was a must-win for us," ECC head coach Craig Starzynski said. "We hit really well tonight. We need to pick up our pace, play to our pace all of the time."

The Kats will play Word of God and Holyoke Friday at the Holyoke (Mass.) Tournament. Pool play continues Saturday and Sunday.
