SANBORN, N.Y. - Oct. 27 - The Erie Community College volleyball team saw its 2012 season come to a close Saturday at the Region III Tournament at Niagara County CC. After recording a 25-17, 25-19, 10-25 over second-seeded Jamestown CC, the Kats then dropped a 25-18, 25-20, 28-26 decision to Monroe CC and a 25-16, 25-19, 25-23 match to Herkimer County CC. The Kats finish the season 21-12.
In the win over Jamestown CC, sophomore Rylie Bean (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) recorded three-straight aces to give the Kats a 16-12 lead in the first set. She closed the set with a kill, one of her team-high 16. Bean also recorded six aces.
In the second set, ECC took an early lead and then won when Emiliee Piechocki (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander) recorded a kill for the 25-19 final.
In the third set, JCC opened a 6-1 lead and never looked back.
Bean led the Kats with 14 kills against Monroe CC. Katie Russi (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) added 12 kills. Bean, Russi and freshman Kelsey Grosh (Delevan, N.Y./Pioneer) each recorded nine digs.
Bean again led the Kats in kills, recording 19 against Herkimer CCC. She also recorded three aces. Russi led ECC with 13 digs. Bean finishes the season with a school-record 471 kills.
