WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - April 7 - A 12-run fourth inning powered the Erie Community College baseball team to a 16-0 win in game one of Sunday's Region III doubleheader vs. Tompkins Cortland CC at ECC's north campus diamond. The Kats then recorded a 13-5 victory in the nightcap to push their win streak to six games. ECC is now 15-10 overall.
ECC scored three runs in the first inning as the Kats got run-scoring singles from Nick Manoukarakis (Toronto, Ont./Birchmount Park) and Zach Hayes (Orchard Park, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude). Manoukarakis led the Kats with three hits and three runs scored. Cody Alessi (Trinity, Fla./Eastlake) improved to 4-0 as he allowed three hits and struck out six.
In game two, TCCC used two walks and three hits to score four runs in its half of the first. The Kats responded with three-straight hits to plate three runs. ECC got a three-run home run by Matt Wilhelm (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) in the fifth inning to take an 8-5 lead. Wilhelm's blast was part of a five-run inning. Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) had three hits and three RBI. Tyler Hoffhines (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster) and Michael D'Eletto (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) each added two hits. D'Eletto had two doubles. Manoukarakis added two RBI.
ECC will play Onondaga CC in a Region III doubleheader starting Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the ECC north campus.
