BUFFALO--Representatives of Erie Community College, Erie County, Preservation Buffalo Niagara and area construction firms will celebrate the college’s $10 million restoration of City Campus’s historic 1901 building with a news conference and raising of the final rooftop finial at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 18th near the Ellicott Street campus entrance.
The massive preservation project (which began in the summer of 2011) has included replacement of the one-time Buffalo Post Office building’s roof; granite and mortar repair of the building’s towering exterior; replacement of the stone walls and cast iron porte cochere at the college’s Oak Street loading dock; restoration of fourth floor art glass; and replacement of the entire building’s windows and window frames. Installation of the last of four copper rooftop finials—which haven’t set atop the building since before 1980—will signify the building’s approach to completion.
Picture and video opportunities will be available throughout the conference, as will interview opportunities with all attending parties. All ECC faculty, staff and students are welcomed to attend.
