Monday, April 15, 2013

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - April 15 - Sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) tossed a one-hitter and had a pair of doubles to lead the Erie Community College baseball team to a 16-1 win over Jamestown CC in the nightcap of Monday's Region III doubleheader. Despite a first-inning grand slam by Barry, JCC used an 11-run third inning to pick up a 17-10 win in the opener.

ECC is now 18-12 on the season. Head coach Joe Bauth has 799 career wins. He'll attempt to win 800 when the Kats play Finger Lakes CC Tuesday afternoon in Canandaigua, N.Y.

In game one's first inning, Michael D'Eletto (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) doubled while Marc Dileo (Williamsville, N.Y./Canisius) walked and Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) added a single. Barry then hit a grand-slam homer. Ricky Mendiola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) singled and eventually scored on a fielder's choice. JCC used three hits, an error, a passed ball, a wild pitch and two bases-loaded walks to score its 11 runs in the third. ECC committed four errors in the contest.

Zach Hayes (Orchard Park, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude) delivered a two-run single in the fourth but JCC scored five times in the fifth. Mendiola led ECC with three hits while D'Eletto, Hayes and Nick Manoukarakis (Toronto, Ont./Birchmount Park) added two hits.

In the nightcap, the Kats scored eight times in the second inning and added four runs in both the fourth and fifth frames.
