ALFRED, N.Y. - Oct. 16 - Sophomore Rylie Bean (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) recorded her third-straight contest with 23-or-more kills as the Erie Community College volleyball team recorded a 25-20, 15-25, 12-25, 25-15, 15-9 win over Alfred State Tuesday night in Western New York Athletic Conference action.
Bean, who was named the Region III Female Athlete of the Week Monday after making 72 kills in three matches, recorded a team-high 23 kills to go with 10 digs and three blocks as the Kats rallied for the win.
"When she gets set well, no one stops her now," said ECC head coach Craig Starzynski. "She was pretty consistent the whole match but she got us points when we needed them in the fourth and fifth sets. Jen (Freeman) knows who to go to when we need a big point and she went to Rylie a lot tonight."
Starzynski also credited sophomore libero Ashley Viengmay (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Maryvale) for her defensive play as she led the Kats with 14 digs.
"We've asked her to play different hitters differently and she was able to come up with some easy digs," he said. "Those digs set up our offense. She was on top of it tonight."
ECC will play in the WNYAC Tournament Saturday at Genesee CC in Batavia. The pairings will be announced later this week.
