BUFFALO, N.Y. - Jan. 29 - The Erie Community College men's basketball team won its 14th-straight game as the Kats handed Alfred State College a 79-41 loss Tuesday night at the Flickinger Center. The Kats, the nation's 14th-ranked team in Tuesday's NJCAA Division II poll, are now 16-3 overall and 7-0 in Western New York Athletic Conference play.
ECC freshman guard Keron Briggs (Buffalo, N.Y./Sweet Home) recorded 15 points, six assists, and five steals to lead the Kats. Sophomore guard Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) added 15 points while sophomore forward Emanuel Hutcherson (Milton, Mass./Milton) picked up 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Darale Young (Buffalo/Middle College) added 11 points.
The Kats used scoring by five different players during a 15-0 run to break away from a 9-9 tie. Elliott sank two foul shots with 5:46 left in the first half to give ECC a 24-9 lead.
ECC will play fifth-ranked Monroe CC at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Flickinger Center in a battle for first place in the WNYAC standings.
